Have you ever been betrayed? Have you ever been vulnerable with a friend, only to have that friend twist your words and use them against you?
Have you ever had your character questioned…your heart misunderstood?
Have you ever been driven to confusion, because you’re open to being wrong…about yourself, your judgment, about others?
After all that, have you found yourself abandoned…tried and convicted… cast out and wondering why and how it all came to this?

I wonder if this is how David felt when he fled from Saul? I imagine David weeping as he ran. I imagine it like the scene from the Lord of the Rings after Gandalf is whipped into the fiery chasm, thought to be dead…
do you hear the music which triggers the emotional response? Do you see each of his fellow sojourners emerge from the cave falling to the ground, staring off into the distance, and gasping for air, as their minds grapple with their emotions.
Then, the seemingly harsh order is given to move forward. Now is not the time nor the place to grieve. Now is the time to move to safety…the quest must continue…the task must be completed.

So too, I imagine David’s pace slowing to a fall as he grapples with what’s just happened…where am I going? What am I doing? What about my family…my friends? What about God’s promise? How God? Why God?
As he weeps on his knees, the command comes…keep going…keep running…don’t stop…you must get to safety!
I’m willing to bet that most of us have been in a similar situation at some point in our lives. A moment when our hearts and minds can’t comprehend the gravity of our circumstances. A moment when nothing makes sense…we can’t see what God has ahead and our hearts are shattered. We don’t understand!
But we have no other option… we must keep moving. If we stay boggled by questions, devastated with emotions, crushed by circumstances, we will die. We will have succumbed to defeat. We will have surrendered in war.
One thing I’m learning in my own race is that sometimes breaks in my run are needed… there’s a time to slow down and catch my breath, cry, maybe even eat… but then, I must gear up and forge ahead.
Until God says, you’re here, you’re safe…I’m going to fight the battle and I’m going to trust Him to lead me to my final destination completing the task which He’s assigned!

Hi, I’m Jacqui, a wife and stay at home mama. I started this blog to share what God’s teaching me - how He’s changing me. It seems that most days I’m a little messy and broken. This is where I’m finding petals of grace. Beauty from ashes. Will you join me?

This. Is. Beautiful.
Thanks so much, Katie. You’re an encouragement!
